Ubuntu is known for notorious patching of packages (i.e it's an easy to install distro but does not work well with third-party packages like CodeTyphon), breaking package compatibility.

Thank you for your interest.
Good is the positive result of your test.
This means that my system is different to standard Ubuntu.

Some clues:
My UBUNTU12.4 is not an installation from scratch.
I started with UBUNTU10.10
updated to UBUNTU11.4
updated to UBUNTU11.10
updated to UBUNTU12.4

Maybe missing packages, libraries, or some configuration conflicts.

I remain at your disposal to figure out what's wrong.

Im using CodeTyphon 3.1 on Ubuntu 12.04 32 bits.
Thanks

This is "normal" Sir
for Ubuntu Linux

Ok, but Is this normal for CodeTyphon?

...perhaps the problem is Ubuntu Linux?!

lazarus.pp(249,1) Fatal: There were 1 errors compiling module, stopping
Fatal: Compilation aborted

The compilation fails due to this:
lazarus.pp(249,1) Error: Can't call the resource compiler "/usr/lib/codetyphon/fpc/bin/x86_64-linux/fpcres", switching to external mode

Can you run this program (fpcres) from the above directory as a normal (non-root) user?
Somehow the previous command (/usr/lib/codetyphon/fpc/bin/x86_64-linux/ppcx64) cannot execute the resource compiler (fpcres)?

Can you add this directory (usr/lib/codetyphon/fpc/bin/x86_64-linux) to your PATH and try again?

Probably it's Ubuntu, because under Arch Linux x64 the libraries are found (see screeshot).
Ubuntu is probably the less compatible distribution for using third-party applications, especially ones with insane complexity like Codetyphon.

Can you add this directory (usr/lib/codetyphon/fpc/bin/x86_64-linux) to your PATH and try again?

What does this mean?

Hi,

What do you think about multi-arch (i386 and x86_64) distribution ?

In my Debian Sid I see the attached picture, but a locate give that :

du@pc-du:~$ locate libX11.so
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libX11.so.6
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libX11.so.6.3.0
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libX11.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libX11.so.6
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libX11.so.6.3.0
du@pc-du:~$

I precise that the Lazarus BIG IDE seems to compile and run perfectly but I do not yet perform big stress tests.

In my distribution libXxf86vm as the name libXxf86vm1
I hope it can encourage reflection.

Cheers
Danilo

You could try upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10, but I don't know if it will change anything.
One question: besides Codetyphon, did you ever installed FreePascal (fpc) or Lazarus IDE via Ubuntu Software Centre?

If you want however to change distribution, I'd suggest you use a ROLLING distribution (like Arch Linux).
This way your system is always up to date.

For me, with Ubuntu 12.04 32/64 bits, it works perfectly

Have you try :
edit your fpc.cfg

For Ubuntu 32 bits

sudo gedit /usr/lib/codetyphon/fpc/bin/i386-linux/fpc.cfg

For Ubuntu 64 bits

sudo gedit /usr/lib/codetyphon/fpc/bin/x86_64-linux/fpc.cfg

.

and replace section searchpath for libraries with that :

# searchpath for libraries
#ifdef cpux86_64
-Fl/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
-Fl/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
#endif

#ifdef cpui386
-Fl/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
-Fl/lib/i386-linux-gnu
#endif

EDIT : Then try to compile Lazarus. PS : In my Ubuntu 12.04 32 bits there is still the window of Typhoon saying "missing libraries" but Lazarus big IDE compiles without problems.

After some point any CT just refuse to get built on my PC. Both win and lin.
But earlier only other lazarus and/or fpc instalation gave me problems. And I easily uninstalled them and "voila".
But now I have Visual studio and mingw and have tried DS game maker under win.
And under ubuntu I have installed and configured some things to compile c, c++ and java code.

So, rather then destroying all of my environments by trying to find out what I just shouldn't have (or should have removed temporarily) to install CT, I've come to this:
- install system librares on the host OS (if that's ubuntu or the likes)
- launch VBox with the same version of OS I'm currently using and install CT there (the OS inside VBox is as clean as it's possible - I use snapshots)
- copy installed CT from the guest to the host

There are some differences, like ct 3.0 compiles in XP running inside Vbox, but generally this scheme is working.
Despite huge ammount of space needed to store binary builds, I'm really loking forward binary packages for Linux and precompiled versions for Windows, cause the time to compile sometimes is longer then the time to download. (That doesn't mean multiOS installer shouldn't be available).

ok. here is another idea. Try to remove alla packages of FreePascal and Lazarus that have beeing installed via the package manager.

run the "Dependency Installer" of CT Studio

Try to build DIRECTLY the BIG ide.

Since version 3.0 (at least in Windows) the only way to build the Studio is to start a clean build of the BIG ide directly. Previously i was
installing first the FPC x32, then the Lazaras x32 ide and so on...

Thank you.
A year ago I installed FPC and Lazarus 9.30.2. But from one year to use CT.
CT <2.90 install OK.
Replace distribution is ever in mind, but it is not easy.

I have updated Ubuntu (not upgrade).
After that I tried again to install CT.
All OK!
But I'm supposed to be happy?
