I can not install packages in CT 2.80 on WinXP. In CT 2.70 this problem does not exist, so I had to switch back to 2.70. At first I thought the problem was with just TStateMachine component pack, but it was the same with IdeInspector, ExploreIdeMenu, LazSvnPkg, MessageComposerPkg and any other package I have tried. I have tried more then 10 times and it always failed. I have even tried clean CT 2.80 and before any customization from my side first thing was to install package - and it failed the same way. It's always the same: IDE displays numerous compilation messages (as it should), and after 15 minutes I get a small message box for a moment (1/10th of the second so I can not read anything from it) and IDE exits. That's it. When I start Lazarus it shows "Current state: not installed" for all packages that I wanted to install. Is it just me or someone else is also affected with this problem?

The packages you mentioned are included in the CT installatin and you only need to "activate" them or they are seperatelly
downloaded?
About me, I haven't yet try to install extra packages to CT Ide (apart from the ones that come along). Usually if i find
some nice component i just report it here in the forum and just wait to see it in the next CT Release.

If i find some time i will try to install TStateMachine (i liked this component) on my IDE and i will post the results.

In my experience with CT I also had some troubles when I tryed to install extra components. In this time, the CT was in version 2.30 or 2.40 and I was working with VMware with Windows XP sp3 and only 512 MB . In this forum I read some advice to increase the RAM memory at least to 1 GB. After this was possible to install all extra components that I needed.
In version 2.80 I had installed the newest version of UNIDAC (Universal Data Access Components) and ACBR (components to comercial automation for brazilian enviroment). And I still working in VMware with Windows XP sp3 and 1 GB of RAM.

All packages except TStateMachine are already in CT and just needed "activation". I have also tried fresh CT with just "activation" of one of the provided packages without installation of any of my own packages and without any environment customization. Everything default.

I have 2GB RAM on that WinXP machine, and as I could see compiler process needed about 1,1GB during work. Besides, almsoares reports that he could add components and recompile with just 1GB on WinXP. I didn't have this problem at all with CT 2.70. I will test CT 2.80 on Win7-64 8GB machine. Maybe that quick message box was some message about memory? Too bad it disappeared without being able to read it.

OK, here are results of packages installation testing on Win7-64 8GB RAM real machine who never previously had any Lazarus or CT installation:

1) Install CT 2.80
>> PASS

2) Install TStateMachine package
>> FAIL

3) Remove TStateMachine and install messagecomposerpkg package (not activated by default in CT)
>> PASS

4) Install TStateMachine, exploreidemenu, ideinspector and lazsvnpkg packages.
>> PASS (even TStateMachine was installed this time)

Although this was a success (with minor glitch of not being able to install TStateMachine the first time), I will not be able to use CT 2.80 on my WinXP machine and therefore I will have to revert to CT 2.70 there, and hopefully wait for a fix in 2.90 ...

I'm having the same problem, though there should be plenty of memory available (it's win32 xp system with 4gb). watching task manager, it seems to die once it hits around 1gb. Windows shows Commit Charge: 1412M / 8007M before running it. I even tried adding that -Ch parameter I had come across elsewhere but it had no affect either, and tried shutting down a bunch of other programs too just in case (including virus scanners). Any other thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

same problem with 5.50, yet only 33% of 16GB is in use at the peak, most of it by firefox.

happens to be in typhoon32. typhoon64 compiles ok.
