I believe you've ran into this:
[c] [/c]
Or not?
If you did, then I don't know how to help...
This problem was in 2.3 and sternas told me that he would check out that.
In 2.3 you have to remove /etc/fpc.cfg before installation.
In 2.4 that wouldn't work. I tried to reinstall CT 2.4 but were unsuccesful... Hope sternas will notice this thread.

Hi v4v4n,

Do you have Administrator rights?
Do you have the UAC disabled during installation?
What Firewall/Antivirus you have?
Have you completely remove any (possible) previous installations of FreePascal and/or Lazarus?

In case you run across the problem that 4aiman described earlier then the only thing you need to is to select the directories
that the Lazarus ide cannot find. I usually run across the above problem when i try to RESTORE my previous saved Lazarus IDE
settings prior to a new CT Release installation.

Oh, it seems I was wrong after all...
But nevertheless: I was troubled with that error, I posted earlier, but I managed to find a solution:
just copy fpc.cfg from /usr/lib/codetyphon/fpc/bin/i386-linux to your /home/user name/.lazarus/ directory :)
(Also I did sudo chmod 777 fpc.cfg after copying)

I'm still do not know why I had to do it (cause many people installed 2.4 without such problems), so if anyone have an idea - I'll be glad to hear your suggestions. But it works pretty good already :)

I've tried my method at my work place (job?) and... it doesn't work!...
Papadouk, did you mean "replacing /home/user name/.lazarus with the old copy of itself" by "RESTORE"?
Because I haven't one... In my case IDE building process is OK. But that fpc.cfg is missing...
But there IS file called fpc.cfg in the /usr/lib/codetyphon/fpc/bin/i386-linux...

I use a 64-Bit Ubuntu System and have had the same problem. I started lazarus in a console and got the output.
After installation the directory ~/.lazarus64 was root.root. Changing this with chmod -R to my user and group
solves the problem.

As a hint: Start lazarus in a console and have a look to the detailed output.

DL7BJ, thanks, but I'm not so ignorant to avoid trying all I could and could not imagine.
This's forum about programming IDE installation, so I believe everyone should have thought that a problem like mine has smth with permissions. Personally I already DID all the things like: total manual removal, run from terminal, changing permissions (just like you hinted ;) ), reinstall, clean and again reinstall, install again and again system libraries...

And the fact is that at home (lycid lynx) I already use CT 2.4, but at work (maverick meercat) I can't launch lazarus. Big IDE IS built, but that error (about fpc.cfg) IS present too.

Sorry, if my words were too harsh, but I cannot chose another to describe what I'm feeling. I'm using CT since ver 1.6 and thought that after 2.3 flawless install 2.4 would be even more easy to install. It is in fact, but I do not know what lazarus want from me when he ask for a file, which IS there where it should be and when this file have not only group or user permission, but 777 value...

And the comes you and say: Hey, have you tried...? (here should be easy and first-to-think-about things I should do to fix my issue)...

Sorry again, DL7BJ, chmod didn't help at all.

Installed. Suddenly O_O
And I have done nothing different from previous tries...
Well, I guess, my issue solved...
