I've just installed CodeTyphon Studio v5.3 on Windows 8.1 64 bit. I was hoping that the included docking would provide a unified interface where all the windows are tied together but it's not working that way for me. When I first opened the IDE, all of the windows were grouped together but when I grabbed the title bar of the top (i.e. menu/toolbar) window and moved it, it separated from the other windows. This happens with each window; they all move and resize individually instead of acting as a unit.

Am I misunderstanding how docking is supposed to work or is something wrong with my installation/configuration? I checked Tools->Options->Environment->Desktop and "Use Docking System" is selected.

Thanks

Hi WXB,

you surely noticed there were yellow bars on the top/edge of the windows.
You need to drag'n'drop them to connect them to the other windows :)
According the location you will select, they could be on the edge or "inside" other windows.
The most simple is to have a look on this video, start directly at 27:00 (in german, but it is visual ;))
Hoping this will help you :)

Or go to Typhon IDE->Window->Restore default Docked
it's very simple

Many thanks to both of you. Both answers were quite helpful.

I'm pretty sure that the answers to these are going to be "no" but I'll ask anyway:

  • Is there any way to have multiple windows occupy the same location and have each accessible via tabs?
  • Are there any options for autohide for windows?
  • Are there any options for pin/unpin (not undock) so that windows can collapse and be restored in the same location as needed?

I was almost ready to move on (actually back to Qt Creator which I had been experimenting with previously) because of the eccentricities of the IDE when I discovered the super-rich component palette and was intrigued. You could actually get lost in that forest of components and I have a suspicion that there might be quite a bit more out there. I think I'm going to have to spend some more time to see if I can make a go of this. I haven't used Pascal in many moons (and never Object Pascal) but it just might be worth delving back into.

Thanks again.

Dragging an undocked window over another one, you will see 5 possible docking site:
top, bottom, left, right and the one interesting you, in the middle.
This last one will dock the window as a tab with the current one.

About autohiding and pinning, i'm not sure it is possible yet, the "spirit" of this IDE is more about floating windows, docking is done for "convenience".
But this shouldn't be too much hard to implement ;)

That does the trick. It's a much more workable interface now.

I do hope that they provide autohiding and pinning at some point. They are relatively standard features in the IDEs I've used. I guess it all comes down to personal taste.

Thanks again!
