I don't know what I did, but the main window of the IDE doesn't appear when I run Lazarus. All of the other windows appear, except the main window. Is there some way for me to fix this?

Try to rename c:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\lazarus32 (Laz32 on Win7, other dirs for other versions) and start Lazarus again. Dir will be recreated with all defaults. You can also examine individual files to see which has the problem and restore all other files. It is wise to backup this dir.

in CT main menu, an item is called "lazarus", in which you can use "restore default" to get the original setting.

Is there another way to fix it? I mean reseting config is not solution but some kind of "workaround"...
Every time I change docking prefences and have main window docked with source editor I end up w/o main window on the next startup. That's under win xp at work. Under win xp and ubuntu at home I've never experienced this.
One could say it's all about my win xp at my work, but I've reinstalled it recently and lazarus "hides" main window again.

Restoring default settings may not be a good solution : the main window reappears but I can't view anymore the messages' one...

In such a case, it can be best to manually set WindowState Value to "Normal" and Top/Left for the window position in environmentoptions.xml and GlassDockingRunTime.xml files.

But it would be fine not to loose configuration datas...

Well, you're certaimly right, but for me it's quicker to reset settings ;)
Besides, I think we should find out what exactly leads to this dissapering and fix it rather then find a workarounds. But I still don't know what exactly causes it.
Maybe someone could reproduce dissapearance with 100% chance?

Hello,
may be my problem fits to theese thread. But it's a little different.
I use a 2 and 3 monitor environment. For Windows I use a native Windows 7 spread on tree monitors. For Linux (ubuntu_12.04 ) I use the Oracle Virtual Box 4.1.18. Sometimes with one, sometimes wiith 2 monitors.
And here my problem: If I only use the leftmost monitor when i close the Lazarus IDE then the IDE restores the next time I start the IDE. But if the IDE is on one of the other monitors, it fails. The only help is to select the lazarus menue "window-->docking:restore default layout". Therefore... My workaround, bevore i close the lazarus IDE, I move it to the leftmost window and then I close it. After restart, I move it back to the 2. window.
This behavior is in Windows 7 and the Virtual Box-Linux.
But the other things of your IDE are great!
With best regards
Konrad

Hello. I'm reviving this old topic, because it happened to me too - I start Typhon and main IDE window is invisible. After doing my search I've found both the problem and a workaround. On my PC (Windows XP) I found that in c:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\typhon32\ there's a file named GlassDockingRuntime.xml. Inside at the very start there's <Item1 Name="MainIDE" Type="CustomSite" WindowState="Minimized">. Removing WindowState="Minimized" solves the problem without any need to reset settings of any kind.
Hope that will help users solve this whenever that problem happens to them.

Excellent find, perfect fix Markov. This just hit me and your fix corrects the problem.

I don't know how that got set but after 2 re-builds and resets it kept happening.

Nice catch.
