Yay! for MSE!
I have realtime protection enabled, but excluded explorer from checklist. So whenever a virus want to be executed - MSE stops it, but when I need to search smth or copy - MSE don't check explorer.exe at all, allowing me to copy anything, even viruses.

...and you must make your own
Virus-CheckList

-Initial Scan for virus, all PC Hard Drivers
-Scan every downloaded file with any extension, before use.
-Scan every file/directory before installation.
-Don't use MsIE (ActiveX virus problems).
-Disable JAVA and any crap-addon from your Browser.

oh , no need to change any antivirus :

any antivirus has abilities to make exceptions around single file or folders , even avira lol

it is easy to go to avira options page , switch to "expert" mode and "add file object" then select C:\codetyphon whole folder ... to deactivate realtime protection on the whole dirtree

Have Fun ! no more alert then.

unwear your gloves , hit your keyboard lol

Hi,

#1. Before download please ensure, your system is clean. Also do boot time checking.
#2. Download CT.zip and scan it. => I did this multiple AntiVirus (not freeware) like Avast, Kasparesky, TrendMicro. No Virus found.
#3. Installed CT/ Prepare CT& Lazarus. => I used to get virus alert from Avast. Not from other AntiVirus. So I did excluded 'Codetyphon' folder.
#4. Report to Antivirus customer-care. They will correct in next update.
$5. ;) If they did not did yet, they should do, unless they are scared of sternus's iconic picture. :)
#6. Even sometime, your build application may result false alarm. Scan it (I don't find any virus). At best antivirus will run it using sandbox for first time. Also check any other toolchain you are using.

Note: If the issue persists across all o/s and antivirus, we need to look into it seriously

This is a fairly serious matter, I have Avira and am getting the same issues.

I note over the past five (5) pages, the signal to noise ratio is fairly low.

Can you please confirm that:

1. Avira is showing a false positive for TR\Crypt.EPAC.gen2 in Lazarus.exe (Yes/No)
2. You recommend ignoring this virus indication as detailed above (Yes/No)

Thank You

We use MSE for 5 years now without problems
Our lab has 15 Windows PC (XP SP3, win7 and Win8)
We build CodeTyphon in these machines (2-5 times per day)
without problems.

We recommend MSE for "heavy Programming" Windows PC

Programming PC (Win or Linux etc) is NOT the same with a simple user PC
Native Programming (CodeTyphon Studio) request access to all OS Subsystems/Libraries
and it's NOT the same with Scripting programming (Java, Web Dev, Visual basic etc)

I will write an article for this in our (Open)Wiki Web Session...

This is the mail I sent to Avira:

Hi,

Many times (about 60% of the time), when I generate a program with Lazarus, using some graphical components, I get a TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen3 virus warning when I try to execute that program. That definitely is a false positive (other virus scanners do not mark them as infected).
Unfortunately, the programs are too big to upload through the website. I also do not have allowance on the internet for such big files.
Do you have an Internet place where I can transfer the samples to (through FTP is alright too)? They are about 25 MB per sample.
I can provide a dozen of them, so that you can compare them. I can also provide a similar program that does not exhibit the virus.

You can understand that this situation drives me mad. It also prohibits distribution later of the finished product. Hope you can help.

Regards,

This is what they answered less than two hours later (!!):

Dear Sir or Madam,

thank you for your email.

Please upload some samples that are falsely detected to our FTP server.
You can access the server with the following credentials:

Host: support.ftp.avira.com
User: ...... (info deleted)
Pass: ...... (info deleted)

ftp://xxxx:yyyy@support.ftp.avira.com (info deleted)

Please drop us a short message, when the upload is finished.

Two days later I had their answer with the path they would go to fix the problem. So, perfect support as far as I can tell. I'm sorry you don't have a similar experience.

This is information from the professionals at "Anti-Virus Comparitives" in their Scanner report March 2013

They found Avira very reliable (missed only 0.4% of the cases, ranking it at place 2 immediately below the winner G Data 2013), where MSE missed no less than 8% (!) ranking it lowest but one.

Also in the number of false positives, AVIRA fared pretty good at 5th place with 8 false positives, but here Microsoft shined with no false positives at all. This is no wonder, because they miss so many viruses.

I would not recommend MSE to anyone in its current state.

When making such accusations, you should be able to come up with independent tests that are favorable for MSE. The offer of Comodo was meant to get their virus scanner a better place, because it totally failed.

This site of AV Test showed a 100% score for Avira w.r.t. the common viruses of the last four weeks. Windows Defender did a lot worse again.

Thank you. What's your point exactly?

If you're showing Avira Antivir is not giving any false positives anymore, that's a relief for a number of people.

Thanks again.

Today I ran into the same virus detection, with Avira, that others have reported here. I mailed Avira support, within 8 minutes (!!!) I had a private ftp address to upload lazarus.exe to and the same day Avira confirmed the false positive and promised to eliminate that in the next signature files.

That's customer support at its best
